INTERNATIONAL MUSIC EXPRESS
International Music Express has recently been acquired by the Gabriel Music Group
of Nashville, TN. For over ten years it has functioned as a very successful compilation CD service targeted at the overseas market.
Started under the name of Nashville Music Express in 1994 by Noel Gibson and the late Ken Woods as part of DixieRaks, its popularity quickly soared within the industry. Under the new ownership of the Gabriel Music Group, International Music Express
has become an independent record label as well. In addition to continuing its successful compilation CD service, it now offers greater opportunities than ever to new, unsigned artists.
International Music Express has been privileged to feature some of country music’s biggest stars including Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, The Bellamy Brothers and Loretta Lynn, just to name a very few.
It distributes compilation (multiple artist) CDs to over 900 radio stations in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South America, making it the largest overseas compilation service in the
United States. That comes as no surprise. The growth of these 900+ foreign venues has been a continual process, 30 years in the making!
Advantages of pursuing the overseas market
The overseas market is wide open. Unlike here, the country music industry is not yet as major-label controlled or saturated overseas.
There is a greater probability of getting airplay and into the charts – actually high in the charts – without a major label behind you. For all intents and purposes, this is very unlikely here in the U.S. In fact, it is possible for Americans who are
“nobodies” at home to become stars in the international market without first having a hit record under their belt.
Another advantage of breaking into the overseas market, Europe in particular, is that European venues will, as a rule, pay all the costs to promote you
once you have supplied them with product (CDs). European country music DJ’s are allowed to play whatever they want.
The good news is, if they like your record, you’re in! Radio stations will sometimes return a comment sheet, (click on comment sheet to view), if there is a favorable response. In short, the potential of getting your career rolling and making big bucks overseas definitely exists!
